Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Rwanda
The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Rwanda is pleased to announce the call for applications for Mastercard Foundation Scholarships for the academic year 2025/2026. This scholarship opportunity is open to African students of all genders and regions with limited access to opportunities.
📖 About the Program
The scholarship is part of the Young Africa Works Strategy, which aims to enable 30 million young people across Africa to access dignified and fulfilling work by 2030. The program focuses on young women, refugees, displaced persons, and people with disabilities.
Applicants must have applied for admission into first-year academic programs at the University of Rwanda for the academic year 2025/2026 to be eligible for the scholarship.

✅ Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Citizenship:
- Be a citizen of Rwanda (for national scholarship quota).
- Be a citizen of any African country, a refugee, or displaced youth in Africa.
- Academic Qualification:
- Academically qualified with limited access to opportunities.
- Age:
- Not above 28 years at the time of application.
- Not above 30 years for applicants with certified proof of protracted life conditions (e.g., refugees, single mothers, child-headed families).
- Admission Criteria:
- Meet admission criteria for eligible programs at the University of Rwanda.
- Must have generated a UR Reference number and submitted an application for admission to UR in one of the earmarked programs.
- Leadership and Community Engagement:
- Demonstrate commitment to leadership and proof of community engagement or transformation initiatives.
- Legal Proofs:
- Refugees and applicants with disabilities must provide legal proofs of their status (e.g., from UNHCR or NCPD).
