📝 About Kyoto University CSEAS Fellowship
The Kyoto University CSEAS Fellowship is hosted by the Center for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS) at Kyoto University. This program offers selected participants the opportunity to:
- Work on research projects.
- Collaborate with experts.
- Engage in academic activities in Japan.
Selected scholars will receive financial support covering travel, living expenses, and research costs.

✅ Kyoto University CSEAS Fellowship Requirements
To be eligible for the fellowship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be accomplished scholars of high standing and under 65 years of age at the time of the fellowship appointment.
- Applicants over 65 years may be considered only in exceptional cases.
- Applicants without a PhD are ineligible unless they have obtained prior approval from a CSEAS faculty member to serve as their counterpart.
- This fellowship is not open to individuals currently enrolled in a graduate degree program or engaged in postdoctoral studies.
- Only experienced librarians are eligible to apply for the library position.
- Scholars who have previously held a CSEAS fellowship are eligible to reapply only after six years have passed since the completion of their fellowship.

Application Process:
Applicants must submit their applications via the online form. The following documents must be attached separately in PDF format and sent via email to grants@cseas.kyoto-u.ac.jp:
- Completed online application form.
- Curriculum vitae (must not exceed 5 pages and include a list of all major publications).
- Research plan for the fellowship term:
- Write a concise overview of your research project for your stay at CSEAS within 2 pages.
- Use double spacing and include paragraph descriptions.
- Download and use the Proposed Research Project Form.
- Two Recommendation Letters:
- Applicants must contact their referees and request them to send their letters of recommendation to CSEAS via email.
- Letters should be written on the institution’s letterhead.
