📖 About the Programme
The Center for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS) Kyoto University Fellowship Programme is designed to support advanced research, writing, and scholarly exchange. It attracts participants from diverse academic and professional backgrounds, including:

🎁 Benefits
Successful applicants will receive:
- An appropriate stipend to cover international travel and living expenses in Kyoto.
- Research funds to facilitate work.
- Funds for domestic travel, subject to government regulations.
- Visiting Research Scholars are considered employees of Kyoto University and are subject to some of the University’s regulations.
✅ Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be accomplished scholars of high standing who are under 65 years of age at the time of the fellowship appointment.
- Applicants over 65 may be considered only in exceptional cases.
- Hold a PhD (Applicants without a PhD are ineligible unless they have obtained approval from a CSEAS faculty member to serve as their counterpart).
- Not be currently enrolled in a graduate degree program or engaged in postdoctoral studies.
- Only experienced librarians are eligible to apply for the library position.
- Scholars who have previously held a CSEAS fellowship are eligible to reapply only after six years have passed since the completion of their fellowship.

How to Apply:
Applicants must submit their applications via the online form.
Required Documents:
- Online Application Form
- Curriculum Vitae
- Must not exceed 5 pages and must include a list of all major publications.
- Research Plan for the Fellowship Term
- Write a concise overview of your research project for your stay at CSEAS within 2 pages.
- Use this form.
- Use double spacing and include paragraph descriptions.
- Two Recommendation Letters
- Applicants must contact their referees and request them to send their letters of recommendation to CSEAS via email (grants@cseas.kyoto-u.ac.jp).
- Letters should be written on their institution’s letterhead.
