✅ Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the PROPEL Program, applicants must:

  • Be currently enrolled full-time in an accredited public or private college or university in the United States or its territories (recognized by the U.S. Department of Education)
  • Be in good academic standing with a GPA of 3.0 or better
  • Have completed at least two semesters and have at least one semester remaining of their undergraduate education by the start of the summer program (priority given to rising juniors and seniors)
  • Have a genuine interest in pursuing a PhD in engineering
  • Be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident
  • International students with an F-1 Visa who are already living in the United States and studying at a U.S. university are also eligible
  • Be at least 18 years old

📝 Application Process

To apply for the PROPEL Program, follow these steps:

  1. Complete the Interfolio Application.
  2. Submit a Research Statement (one page) including:
    • Research interests
    • Prior research experience
    • How this program aligns with your future goals
    • Identify 2-3 faculty members whose research aligns with your interests (refer to departmental websites).
  3. Submit a Leadership Statement (one page) describing:
    • Academic, leadership, or service engagement that advances inclusive excellence or reduces social, educational, or economic disparities.
  4. Provide a Resume or CV.
  5. Submit One Letter of Recommendation from an individual who can speak to your academic and research experience (e.g., faculty member, research mentor, or supervisor).
  6. Include Unofficial Transcripts covering all semesters to date.
