📖 About Jane Street Graduate Research Fellowship

The Jane Street Graduate Research Fellowship (GRF) supports exceptional doctoral students currently pursuing a PhD in the following fields:

  • Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
  • Mathematics

  • Statistics

At Jane Street, the approach to trading on global markets is rigorous and quantitative, utilizing techniques from:

🎁 Benefits of Jane Street Graduate Research Fellowship

  • Full tuition and fees covered for the upcoming academic year.
  • A $45,000 USD stipend (or equivalent in local currency) to assist with living expenses during the PhD program.
  • Fellows will be invited (but not required) to visit Jane Street's office to give a talk on any topic of their choosing. All expenses for this visit will be paid.
  • Finalists will receive a $5,000 monetary award, and those selected as Fellows will receive this in addition to their Fellowship stipend.

✅ Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. Be PhD students with at least one year remaining in a program in electrical engineering and computer science, mathematics, physics, or statistics, or have committed to commence a PhD program at a specified university in the Fall of 2026.
  2. Remain in good academic standing as an active, full-time member of their PhD program at a degree-granting accredited research institution in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Europe, Australia, or New Zealand for the duration of the academic year of the award. Deferrals for medical reasons or other extenuating circumstances may be granted on a case-by-case basis.
  3. International students are eligible and encouraged to apply.
  4. Current employees (and their immediate family members) and former employees are not eligible to become fellows or finalists, though they may be considered for honorable mentions.
  5. PhD fellowships generally require university-specific payment negotiations. If accepted, Jane Street will work with your program to arrange the award of your fellowship.

📝 Application Process

Complete applications should include:

  • A CV or resume.
  • A brief statement explaining your research (or proposed research direction). This should be geared toward a general, mathematically or technically inclined audience who may not be specialists in your field. Suggested length: 1-2 pages (longer is acceptable if necessary).
  • Contact information for your letter writer(s). Jane Street will reach out directly to collect recommendations once the application is received.
