The Sub-Saharan Africa Health Research and Innovation Fellowship (SAHRI Fellowship) is a prestigious three-year training program aimed at empowering 12 talented mid-career biomedical and clinical researchers from sub-Saharan Africa (sSA). The program focuses on developing leaders in biomedical innovation and clinical research to address the pressing challenges of infectious disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and control across the region.

The SAHRI Fellowship is hosted by the Institute of Tropical Medicine Antwerp and provides a comprehensive training trajectory for researchers. It is designed to enhance their skills and leadership in tackling health challenges in sub-Saharan Africa.

✅ Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the SAHRI Fellowship, applicants must meet the following requirements:

Be a national of a sub-Saharan African country and hold a valid passport for international travel.
Hold a university degree equivalent to a Master’s in the European Union (EU) and meet all admission requirements for the Master of Science in Tropical Medicine.
Demonstrate an interest in infectious disease research aligned with EDCTP Strategic Research Agenda priorities. Previous research experience or publications are an advantage.
Provide proof of institutional support and commitment to allow leave of absence.
Have a clear vision of how the fellowship will advance health research in Africa, with a demonstrated commitment to building research capacity in their home institution or country.
Show interest in biomedical innovation and entrepreneurship.
