The African Institute for Capacity Development–ICGEB Postdoctoral Fellowship offers African scientists a fully funded six-month research placement at ICGEB laboratories in Italy, India, or South Africa.

Participants of the ICGEB-AICAD Short Term Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme will receive:

  • Monthly stipend:
    • Trieste (Italy): €2,300
    • New Delhi (India): $1,749
    • Cape Town (South Africa): ZAR 27,500
  • Travel expenses:
    • Coverage for travel from the participant’s home country to the ICGEB lab at the start of the fellowship.
    • Return travel provision upon completion of the fellowship.
  • Medical health insurance: Coverage for the duration of the fellowship.
  • Visa/permit costs: Reimbursement for application and renewal expenses.

✅ Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the fellowship, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Nationality: Must be nationals of Kenya, United Republic of Tanzania, or Uganda.
  • Degree requirements:
    • Hold a recent PhD in Life Sciences or
    • Have at least 3 years of research experience.
  • Age preference: Candidates below the age of 35 are preferred.

📅 Application Date and Process

Applicants will need to upload the following documents in PDF format:

  1. Full CV
  2. Written Statement from the ICGEB Group Leader
  3. Valid identification document (passport or identity card)
    • Recommended passport validity: 12 months minimum
  4. English Certificate (e.g., TOEFL, Cambridge, or similar)
    • Not required if English was the medium of instruction, but the university must provide an official certificate attesting to this.
