β Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the program, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Open to scholars in all disciplines (clinical medical research involving patient contact is not eligible).
- Applicants must be Malawian citizens or permanent residents.
- Preference is given to applicants with a letter of invitation from a prospective host institution. Applicants are encouraged to seek out a suitable host institution.
- Scholars must indicate the grant category they are applying for (research or program and curriculum development).
- Research Grant Applicants:
- Must hold a doctorate degree or equivalent terminal degree in their field at the time of application.
- Preference is given to individuals with at least three years of university teaching experience and a productive scholarly record.
- Program and Curriculum Development Applicants:
- Applicants without doctorate degrees but with a masterβs or equivalent graduate degree are eligible.
- Applications for the following are ineligible:
- Doctoral dissertation research
- Postdoctoral research immediately following the completion of a doctorate degree
- General professional travel
- Scholars who were unsuccessful in previous competitions may re-apply. Repeat applicants should revise their proposals, update their curriculum vitae, and obtain current letters of reference.
