The Youth Sounding Board (YSB) is a consultative platform that empowers Nepalese youth to meaningfully influence the European Union’s (EU) development cooperation actions. It ensures that young people's voices are integrated into EU policies, programs, and decision-making processes.

Context:

According to Nepal’s National Youth Policy, approximately 20.8% of the population falls within the 16–25 age group, while 40.68% lies in the 16–40 range. This demographic presents a significant opportunity for Nepal's development. The YSB aims to place youth at the center of planning, designing, and implementing development initiatives to address challenges and unlock sustainable solutions.

🎯 Purpose of the Youth Sounding Board

The YSB serves as a platform for Nepalese youth to:

  • Provide feedback to shape and influence European Union policies and programs in Nepal.
  • Ensure youth perspectives are integrated into decision-making processes.
  • Contribute to making development cooperation more inclusive, relevant, and meaningful.

🛠️ How the Youth Sounding Board Works

YSB members will serve a voluntary/unpaid 13-month mandate (expenses covered). Members will engage in various initiatives based on their thematic interests, such as governance, education, gender, and green growth.

Key Areas of Engagement:

  1. Programmatic Input and Strategic Advisory

    • Provide insights to shape EU-Nepal policies and programs.
    • Attend events, field missions, and interact with stakeholders to monitor and provide feedback.
    • Document and share evidence from field visits to analyze the impact of interventions.
    • Explore thematic priorities (e.g., climate change, education, governance) and provide insights.
  2. Communication, Advocacy, and Digital Engagement

    • Participate in campaigns and public events to amplify youth voices.
    • Engage in digital platforms and storytelling to highlight youth issues and initiatives.
  3. Networking and Collaborative Engagement

    • Build alliances with national and international youth leaders, civil society actors, and development stakeholders.
  4. Capacity Building and Knowledge Sharing

    • Participate in workshops, training sessions, and exchange visits.
    • Share experiences and learnings with peers for collective growth.
  5. Community Action and Grassroots Impact

    • Design and implement “Action at Home” projects to address local challenges.
    • Lead programmatic and financial management of activities.
    • Demonstrate youth leadership and sustainable solutions.
  6. Youth-Centered Policy Review

    • Analyze national and international programs and policies to provide evidence-based feedback.

✅ Eligibility Criteria

To apply, candidates must:

  • Be aged 18–26 years as of the application deadline.
  • Be available from August 2025 to September 2026.
  • Demonstrate commitment to volunteerism and community development.
  • Show willingness and ability to travel to rural project areas.
  • Have at least a Secondary Level Education.
  • Be proficient in Nepali (spoken and written) and have basic English communication skills.

📅 Application Process and Timeline

The selection process consists of three steps:

Step 1: Shortlisting (July 1–7, 2025)

  • Applications will be reviewed against eligibility and motivation criteria.
  • All applicants will receive an email update regarding the outcome by July 9, 2025.

Step 2: Interviews (July 13–21, 2025)

  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a 10–12-minute virtual interview via Zoom or Google Meet.
  • Interviews will be conducted in Nepali or English, with one question to be answered in English.

Step 3: Final Selection (July 23–28, 2025)

  • The final list of selected candidates will be prepared and approved.
  • Selected candidates will receive official communication from the EU via email on July 28, 2025.
