The Hans Böckler Foundation’s Dieter Schumacher PhD Scholarship program supports outstanding international PhD students in Economics to conduct a 12-24 month stay at a German university or research institute.

🎁 Benefits

  • Monthly stipend: EUR 1550 for living expenses.
  • Annual allowance: EUR 1400 for travel expenses.

✅ Eligibility Criteria

  • Applications are welcome from all countries, especially from the global south.
  • Research areas of interest include:
    • Fiscal and monetary policy
    • Labor markets
    • Income distribution
    • Financial markets
    • Other fields relevant from an employee’s perspective
  • Applicants should:
    • Be politically, culturally, and socially engaged.
    • Have an active interest in the core values of the Hans Böckler Foundation.
    • Be under the age of 30.

📝 Application Process

Applicants are required to submit the following documents:

  1. A description of your doctoral project (3 pages).
  2. A research paper outlining the topic, questions, methodology, and goals of your research in Germany (3 pages).
  3. An invitation letter from your host PhD supervisor in Germany, who will provide on-site support and integration into local and national research contexts.
  4. A letter of recommendation from your PhD supervisor at your home institution.
  5. Your CV in table form.
  6. Your diploma that entitles you to pursue a doctorate.
  7. The application form (available for download).
