The BCLF Short Fiction Story Contest began in 2019 as the Emergent Writers Contest, targeting unpublished writers of Caribbean descent in the North American diaspora. Initially named the BCLF Elizabeth Nunez Caribbean-American Writer's Prize, the competition was later expanded in 2020 to include a second prize for writers residing in the Caribbean.

✅ Eligibility Criteria
For the BCLF Elizabeth Nunez Caribbean-American Writer's Prize:
- Must be of Caribbean heritage or Caribbean descent.
- Must be a resident of the United States or Canada.
- Must be over the age of 18 years.
- Self-published writers may apply.
For the BCLF Elizabeth Nunez Award for Writers in the Caribbean:
- Open to unpublished and published writers who were born/raised and hold nationality in the Caribbean.
- Writers currently on temporary assignment outside the Caribbean (except in the US and Canada) may apply.
- Submitted stories must be original works of fiction.
- Must be over the age of 18 years.
- Writers of all publishing statuses may apply.
