Opportunity Details

The program is open to students enrolled or recently accepted as full- or part-time students in a nationally accredited program. Scholarships are available for students at technical/associate, undergraduate, and graduate schools.

Preference is given to applicants with current or recent experience working in the gear and/or power transmission industry. Scholarship funds are paid directly to the educational institution and may be used for tuition, room and board, textbooks, and materials.

Scholarships are awarded in August each year and paid in two installments:

  • Half in September of the same year
  • Second half in March of the following year

Students who do not continue school in the spring semester forfeit the second payment.

Technical School/Associate Degree Students

  • Eligible for a scholarship award of up to $2,500.
  • Renewable for additional years, with a maximum aggregate of $7,500.
  • Renewal is not automatic; applicants must submit a full and timely application for additional awards.

Undergraduate Students

  • Eligible for up to $5,000 per year.
  • Renewable for a maximum of three additional years, with a maximum aggregate of $20,000.
  • Renewal is not automatic; applicants must submit a full and timely application for additional awards.

Graduate Students

  • Eligible for up to $5,000 per year.
  • Renewable for a maximum of two additional years, with a maximum aggregate of $15,000.
  • Renewal is not automatic; applicants must submit a full and timely application for additional awards.

πŸ“‹ AGMA Foundation Scholarship Program Requirements

Reporting Requirements

  1. Mid-Year Progress Report (due by January 31):

    • Financial accounting of scholarship funds (proof of enrollment and fund usage).
    • Transcript or document showing coursework related to the power transmission industry.
    • Short description of student work for sharing on AGMA Foundation platforms.
    • One photo showing the student in a relevant capacity (e.g., lab, club activity, class).

    Failure to submit the mid-year report will make the student ineligible for the March scholarship payment.

  2. Final Report (due within 30 days of scholarship period completion, by October 1):

    • Financial accounting of scholarship funds.
    • Detailed progress report.

    Failure to submit the final report will make the student ineligible for future AGMA Foundation scholarships.

πŸ“ Application Date and Process

Application Requirements

Applicants must include the following in their application:

  • Grade Point Average:
    • 3.0 or higher for Undergraduate and Graduate students.
    • 2.0 or higher for Technical/Associate degree students.
  • Internship, co-op, work, community, volunteer, and other extracurricular activities.
  • Work experience in the gear and/or power transmission industry.
  • Honors, awards, and recognitions of the student’s work and leadership skills.
  • Personal statement regarding proposed program and study, career goals, and financial need.
  • (For graduate-level scholarships) Relevance of graduate-level research to the gear and/or power transmission industry.
  • Official transcripts of High School and/or institution of higher learning coursework (certified by the Registrar or authorized official).
    • High School transcripts are required only for Technical/Associate level students and first-year Undergraduate students.
    • Note: Unofficial transcripts will not be considered.
  • Two Letters of Recommendation:
    • One from an employer and one from a faculty member.
    • Greater weight is given to letters from employers in the gear and/or power transmission industry and faculty in engineering, math, and/or science fields.
    • Letters must be sent directly to the Foundation at foundation@agma.org.
