ACU Routledge/Round Table Commonwealth Studentships 2025
The Routledge/Round Table Commonwealth PhD Studentships provide support for research projects on Commonwealth-related themes in the humanities and social sciences.
π About ACU Routledge/Round Table Commonwealth Studentships
The studentships aim to support research projects that meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Relate to the Commonwealth as a whole or to any Commonwealth-wide institution or organization.
- Have a Commonwealth comparative aspect.
- Be of relevance to more than one Commonwealth country.
Successful applicants will be required to:
- Submit an article of 4,000β6,000 words based on their research for consideration in The Round Table journal.
- Create a podcast on their research for publication on the journalβs website.
π Mentorship
As part of the studentship, applicants must identify and work with a mentor at a university in a Commonwealth country other than their own.
Mentor Responsibilities:
- Hold at least two virtual meetings with the student during the studentship.
- Provide advice on publishing, events, trends, and new ways of thinking in the field.
- Contribute to either the podcast or the article produced by the student.
- Receive an honorarium of Β£500 GBP, payable at the end of the studentship.
Mentors must adhere to the mentor code of conduct guidelines.
π° Benefits
Two studentships are available, each with a maximum value of Β£5,500 GBP:
- One for PhD students registered at UK universities.
- One for PhD students registered at ACU member universities in Commonwealth countries other than the UK.
β Eligibility Criteria
Applications are welcomed from a broad range of disciplines in the humanities and social sciences.
Key Points:
- Preference may be given to disciplines typically covered by The Round Table journal, such as:
- Politics
- International relations
- Economics
- International history
- Geography
- Law
- Development studies
- Area studies
- Applicants from STEM fields will not be accepted unless the research proposal clearly addresses a policy-related theme.
- It is not required for the applicantβs PhD/DPhil research to already have a Commonwealth focus. Applications are encouraged where the award will enable the applicant to add a Commonwealth dimension to their work.
