Abstract
This study investigated sex-specific gene modules associated with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) symptoms using differential gene expression and co-expression network analyses in six brain regions. Results revealed varying network homology between sexes, with sex-specific associations between brain structures and MDD symptom expression. Transcriptional signatures linked to pathways like GABAergic and glutamatergic neurotransmission, metabolic processes, and intracellular signal transduction were identified, demonstrating sex-specific associations with distinct symptomatic profiles across brain regions.
