Abstract
This study investigates self-reported health effects associated with exposure to fragranced consumer products in Germany. Using a nationally representative online survey (n=1102), the study found that nearly 20% of participants reported fragrance sensitivity, with respiratory and mucosal problems being most common. Three out of four autistic participants reported fragrance sensitivity. The study also highlights a significant misunderstanding about the health implications of natural versus synthetic fragrances. The high prevalence of reported health problems underscores the need for further action and improved risk communication.
