Abstract
This study explores the mechanism of online spiritual solidarity groups for older adults in China who have lost their only child (shidu parents). Using an ethnographic approach combining interviews, questionnaires, and participatory observation within a WeChat group, the research examines how a spiritually drawn-together model functions as a new pension modality. The virtual platform overcomes regional constraints, meets diverse needs, offers emotional outlets, and provides spiritual comfort while safeguarding rights and improving quality of life. Findings indicate that peer-based spiritual support can compensate for the absence of child support, reduce psychological stress, and enhance well-being among shidu parents.
