Abstract
This study investigated the impact of China's political openness index and foreign direct investment on its ecotourism index from 1985 to 2019. Findings show a 1% increase in foreign direct investment (FDI) leads to a long-term 0.01% increase in China's sustainable tourism index. The political openness index significantly boosted ecotourism, with a 1% increase resulting in a 0.32% and 0.53% short-term and long-term increase, respectively. Financial openness also had a positive impact. Key policies to advance ecotourism include ensuring political stability, enhancing green financial markets, and implementing poverty alleviation measures.
