Abstract
This review aimed to integrate and critically analyse available knowledge regarding patients' perspectives on digital health tools and identify facilitators and barriers to their uptake. A narrative review using Scopus and Google Scholar databases was conducted. Seventy-one articles were included. Patient empowerment, self-management, and personalization were identified as facilitators. Digital literacy, health literacy, and privacy concerns were identified as barriers. The review highlights the disconnect between digital health tool development and patient needs, emphasizing the potential of participatory design to create patient-centered tools.
