Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) phases and northeastern North Atlantic primary productivity using sediment cores from the southeastern Norwegian Sea spanning the last 8000 years. The authors find an anti-correlation between NAO phase and primary productivity, as proxied by Ca/Fe ratios in the sediment cores. This relationship enables a sub-decadally resolved NAO reconstruction for the last 8000 years, providing a valuable new dataset for understanding long-term North Atlantic climate variability.
