Parafoveal information plays a crucial role in reading despite reduced visual acuity. This study investigated whether lexical information is previewed parafoveally using rapid invisible frequency tagging (RIFT) with magnetoencephalography (MEG) and eye-tracking. Results showed stronger tagging responses during pre-target fixations for low-frequency compared to high-frequency target words, indicating lexical parafoveal processing and correlating with individual reading speed. This suggests simultaneous foveal and parafoveal processing for fluent reading.
