Abstract
Long-term mulched drip irrigation (MDI) has significantly improved cotton production in China's arid regions. This study evaluated the impact of MDI on key soil environmental factors, providing a holistic assessment of its sustainability. Long-term MDI showed benefits including improved soil salinity management, nutrient retention, soil structure, and microbial functions, contributing to enhanced soil quality. The findings support MDI as an effective water-saving technology and a sustainable solution for oasis agriculture in arid lands.
