Abstract
This paper investigates the multifaceted effects of molybdenum at nano and atomic scales in enhancing the stability of passive films on FeCrNi(Mo), 316L stainless steel, and FeCrNiCo(Mo) surfaces. Advanced surface analysis and density functional theory (DFT) modeling reveal how Mo, enriched with Cr in the passive film, impedes chloride ion penetration, protects defect sites, and enhances selective dissolution of iron, ultimately increasing passivity and resistance to corrosion.
