Discover the intriguing connection between subjective experiences and therapeutic effects of ketamine and psilocybin in treating depression and substance use disorders. This groundbreaking meta-analysis conducted by Jack D. C. Dahan, David Dadiomov, Tijmen Bostoen, and Albert Dahan reveals that psilocybin may enhance treatment outcomes more than ketamine, particularly for depression. Abstract
This meta-analysis and systematic review investigated the correlation between subjective effects (dissociation) and therapeutic outcomes of ketamine and psilocybin in treating depression and substance use disorder (SUD). Analyzing 23 ketamine studies (471 patients) and 8 psilocybin studies (183 patients), the study found a modest mediating effect of subjective effects on therapeutic outcomes. Psilocybin showed a greater mediating effect than ketamine, especially in depression treatment. SUD treatment showed a greater mediating effect than depression treatment regardless of the drug used.
