This study investigates the economic viability of restoring marshes in front of seawalls as a nature-based solution for coastal protection. A 1-D wave attenuation model, validated with field measurements, predicts wave attenuation based on species-specific morphology and stiffness. Benefit-cost analysis reveals that marsh-fronted seawalls offer economically justified coastal protection, even with varying discount rates, and are more sensitive to water depth than wave height. A case study at Juniper Cove, Massachusetts, further supports these findings.
