Abstract

This paper estimates physical accessibility and secondary school non-attendance among adolescents and school-age youths in Tanzania, Cambodia, and the Dominican Republic. Community cluster survey data were combined with secondary school locations, geospatial data, and population maps to estimate accessibility and the number of out-of-school youth. Results show sub-national variation in accessibility and attendance, with attendance strongly associated with distance to school. Increasing the number of secondary schools is suggested as a way to reduce long commutes.
