PhD by publication, a growing but not universally accepted doctoral route, often defaults to positivist and interpretivist approaches. This paper, using documentary analysis of 101 universities' regulations and literature review, reveals a scarcity of critical realism in doctoral studies and inconsistencies in PhD by publication formats. It introduces the IDADA (Identify, Define, Analyze, Develop, Apply) methodological framework, a solution-centric approach promoting ontological, epistemological, and axiomatic rigor while encouraging a pluralist, non-linear research process for greater impact.
