Abstract
This paper investigates how latecomer firms achieve catch-up through technology management (TM) by comparing Chinese and Korean firms. The study reveals differences in TM practices and modes between latecomers (Chinese firms) and forerunners (Korean firms). Latecomers prioritize equipment condition assessment, understanding required tech talent, and compiling technology information, while forerunners emphasize competitor learning, effective training, and detailed technology information management systems. The relationship between TM and product innovation is more integrated for forerunners. The findings enrich catch-up literature and offer insights into latecomer transformation into global leaders.
