Abstract
This paper assesses the future population and asset exposure of West Africa to coastal flooding due to sea level rise and socioeconomic development. Using projected sea level rise scenarios and socioeconomic pathways, the study finds that socioeconomic development will be the primary driver of increased coastal flooding by the end of the century, exceeding the impact of sea level rise in many countries. This highlights the critical need for sustainable coastal planning and flood risk mitigation strategies in West Africa.
