Abstract

This study examines the level of agency conflict in Malaysian Public Listed Companies (PLCs) and the role of institutional investors in mitigating agency issues. It finds that institutional investors significantly mitigate agency conflict, with monitoring and dialogue engagement being the most influential roles. The study highlights Type 1 agency conflict (principal-agent) as a significant corporate governance issue in Malaysia and offers recommendations to strengthen the governance mechanism in Malaysian PLCs.
