Abstract
This study investigates the negative emission potential of biochar in China, considering various feedstocks and deployment locations. Results indicate a potential of up to 0.92 billion tons of CO₂ per year at an average net cost of US$90 per ton of CO₂, sufficient to meet negative emission demands in most scenarios compatible with China's 2060 carbon neutrality goal. The analysis highlights the importance of considering biomass diversity and spatial factors for accurate assessment and effective deployment strategies.
