Abstract

This paper presents a novel method for creating curved displays of non-developable shapes using origami tessellations. The method employs a structure-mechanics-inspired optimization algorithm to design tessellation patterns that fold into desired shapes, demonstrated with spherical and saddle-shaped displays. Microfabrication, pick-and-place technology, and mold guidance are used for manufacturing. The process is deemed feasible for mass production.
