This study analyzes public perception of the seriousness of violent and hateful communication (VHC) on social media and the consensus on content removal. Using an experimental paradigm with 918 participants across three groups, the study found high consensus on the need to remove VHC content, regardless of presentation style (description, example, or both). Participants perceived VHC as very serious, particularly content involving direct physical harm or targeting vulnerable groups. These findings have implications for the debate on freedom of expression and online regulation by private actors.
