Abstract
Variation in cognitive trajectory during aging is only partially explained by common neurodegenerative pathologies. This study aimed to identify new molecular processes underlying this variation using brain microRNA profiles, integrated with brain transcriptome and proteome data. Analysis of four longitudinal cohorts identified miR-132-3p and miR-29a-3p as significant contributors to cognitive trajectory, independent of eight measured neurodegenerative pathologies. Integrative analyses revealed downstream targets of these microRNAs, suggesting their roles in cognitive stability.
