This preregistered study validated the English version of the Pseudoscience Endorsement Scale (PES) and investigated its correlates. 510 U.S. volunteers completed the PES, questionnaires measuring paranormal, denialist, and conspiracist beliefs, a scientific literacy questionnaire, a bullshit detection test, and a cognitive reflection test. The validation resulted in a shorter version (sPES). Scores on different unwarranted belief questionnaires correlated, suggesting a common basis. Scientific knowledge, cognitive reflection, and bullshit sensitivity negatively associated with sPES scores, with bullshit receptivity being the main predictor of pseudoscience endorsement.
