Abstract

This umbrella review systematically analyzes global trends, challenges, and priorities in Shared Decision-Making (SDM) research within mental healthcare. It examines 10 systematic reviews encompassing 100 unique studies (47,846 participants) to identify effective SDM approaches in mental health, focusing on core targets and elements for successful implementation. The review reveals methodological limitations, highlighting the need for improved SDM measures, interventions, and decision aids uniquely developed and validated for people with mental illness, emphasizing polyadic SDM involving family members and peer support workers, and addressing diverse populations and sociocultural contexts.
