This study presents a comprehensive review of existing approaches for evaluating the financial and social performance of microfinance. It provides a systematic classification of evaluation methods, explains evaluation methods and techniques, and offers a theoretical framework explaining the applicability of each method to assess different microfinance dimensions. The framework helps policymakers, donors, and practitioners understand and compare existing methods, identify appropriate methods based on performance type, and effectively communicate this information.
