Women in AI Fellowship 2026
The United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) is currently accepting applications for its Women in AI Fellowship 2026. This fellowship is designed as a capacity-building program to equip women diplomats with advanced knowledge of the policy, legal, and technical aspects of AI.
🏢 About UNIDIR Women in AI Fellowship
The Women in AI Fellowship aims to empower women diplomats by providing them with:
- Knowledge of AI in the context of international peace and security.
- Skills, resources, and networks to effectively engage in multilateral AI discussions.
🎁 Benefits of the Fellowship
- Free of charge: The fellowship program is delivered at no cost.
- Financial support: Travel and accommodation in Geneva for the week-long training program will be available for a select number of participants.
- Priority for developing countries: Fellows from developing countries will be prioritized for financial support.
✅ Eligibility Criteria
The fellowship is open to women diplomats and government representatives who meet the following requirements:
- Career level: Junior to mid-career level.
- Representation: Must be representatives of UN Member States.
- Language proficiency: Strong command of both written and spoken English.
- Interest areas: Security, technology, and/or gender.
📋 Application Process
Applicants must submit the following supporting documents via email to sectec-unidir@un.org with the subject line:
“2026 UNIDIR Women in AI Fellowship Application”
Required Documents:
- Copy of passport.
- Curriculum vitae (maximum two pages).
- Two recommendation letters:
- One must be from the applicant’s national government or diplomatic representation to the UN.
- Letter of interest (one page):
- Detail the applicant’s experience and interest in the fellowship areas.
- Outline how the applicant plans to use the knowledge gained during the program.
Important Note: Applications must be submitted by the relevant diplomatic representation. UNIDIR will not accept applications directly from individuals. Ensure the applicant’s email address is included in the CC field of the email.
