The Women & Gender Constituency (WGC) invites applications for the Gender Just Climate Solutions Awards 2025. These awards aim to showcase innovative and gender-responsive climate solutions that promote gender equality and women's rights in climate action.

📝 About the Awards

The Gender Just Climate Solutions Awards were launched in 2015 by the Women & Gender Constituency (WGC). These awards highlight practical examples of integrating gender equality into climate action. The WGC, established in 2009, is one of the nine stakeholder groups of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and consists of 64 women's and environmental civil society organizations.

Categories of Winning Initiatives

Winning initiatives are showcased across three project types:

  • Technical Climate Solutions: Gender-responsive technologies such as water management, renewable energy, food production, digitalization, and waste reduction.
  • Non-Technical Climate Solutions: Gender-responsive initiatives focusing on behavioral change, skills sharing, capacity building, and mutual learning.
  • Transformational Climate Initiatives: Projects addressing governance, societal change, and challenging patriarchal norms.

Award Tiers

  1. Top Award Winners:

    • Three winners (one per project type) will receive:
      • €5,000 Monetary Award.
      • Travel for one representative to attend the Awards Ceremony at COP30 in Belem, Brazil (November 2025).
    • Participation in a capacity-building workshop with previous awardees (2015–2023), including training to upscale solutions and networking opportunities.
  2. Nominees:

    • Up to 12 nominees will be featured in the Awards publication (available in four languages) and showcased during the Awards Ceremony.

✅ Eligibility Criteria

To apply, initiatives must meet the following requirements:

  • Open to activists, grassroots, women-led, and gender equality organizations working on climate change issues worldwide.
  • Only non-governmental initiatives are eligible (local or national government initiatives are not considered).
  • The project/initiative must have been completed or operational for at least one year.
  • The initiative must align with one of the three award categories.

📊 Selection Criteria

Applications will be evaluated based on their contributions to gender equality, resilience, and sustainability. Priority will be given to women and gender non-conforming-led initiatives.

Key Result Areas

  1. Women's Rights and Gender Equality:

    • Equal access to benefits for all genders.
    • Alleviates women's workload and enhances livelihood security, food security, health, and access to resources.
    • Promotes women's democratic rights and participation in decision-making.
  2. Climate Resilience:

    • Locally led and sustainable.
    • Contributes to climate change mitigation, emissions reduction, and adaptation.
  3. Scaling-Up and Transfer:

    • Replicable and scalable solutions.
    • Addresses cross-cutting issues like peace-building, natural resource management, food security, and health.
