📖 About the Scholarship

The Ute and György Széll International Scholarship is designed to support outstanding international PhD students in the fields of Social Sciences and Humanities. This scholarship offers a unique opportunity for a six-month stay at a German university, research institute, foundation, or archive.

Recipients of the scholarship will receive the following financial support:

• Monthly stipend: EUR 1450 for living expenses
• Annual allowance: EUR 1300 for travel expenses

✅ Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Hans-Böckler-Stiftung Ute and György Széll International PhD-Scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Enrollment in a PhD programme in the fields of Social Sciences or Humanities
• Submission of:
  • A research plan (3 pages) describing the doctoral project, including its context in career development
  • A research paper outlining the topic, questions, methodology, and goals of the research in Germany (3 pages)
  • An invitation letter from the host PhD supervisor in Germany, confirming on-site support and integration into local and national research contexts
  • An assessment by the PhD supervisor at the applicant's home institution
  • A CV in table form
  • A Diploma entitling the applicant to pursue a doctorate
  • The completed application form
