✅ Eligibility Criteria

To apply for UTRIP, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be an international undergraduate student (enrolled in non-Japanese universities).
  • Have completed at least 1 year of a Bachelor’s program and plan to return for at least one more term after UTRIP.
  • Priority is given to 2nd or 3rd-year students in natural sciences.
  • Provide proof of health insurance.
  • Submit English proficiency test scores (TOEFL/IELTS) unless exempt (native speakers or those with 8+ years of English-medium education).

📝 Application Process

1. Review Hosting Labs & Topics

  • Check the list of available labs and projects before applying.
  • Select up to two labs and indicate your preference order.

2. Prepare Required Documents

  • Personal Information: General profile details, current email, and reliable mailing address.
  • Personal Statement (700–1000 words):
    • Why you chose the project(s)
    • What you hope to gain
    • Your qualifications (skills/experience)
    • Whether you plan to apply to UTokyo’s Graduate School of Science later
  • Resume/CV: Include education, relevant work/projects, courses, and awards.
  • Academic Transcript: Scanned copy with name, university, courses, grades, credits, and grading legend.
  • GPA: Provide official GPA or calculate and explain if not provided by your university.
  • English Proficiency: TOEFL/IELTS scores (expired scores accepted if proof available). Exemptions apply to native speakers or those with 8+ years of English-medium education.
  • Recommendation Letter: One professor in natural sciences who knows your academic background.

3. Submit Online Application

  • Fill out the online form with all required documents.
  • Note: There is no "save" function—prepare everything before starting.
  • Once submitted, your recommender will receive an automated email to upload their letter.

4. Deadlines

  • Application Deadline: January 7, 2026 (17:00 JST)
  • Recommendation Letter Deadline: January 14, 2026 (17:00 JST)
  • Late submissions will not be accepted.

5. Selection & Notification

  • Selection is based on submitted documents.
  • Notifications will be sent via email in mid-to-late March 2026.
  • Results will also be announced on the UTRIP website in early April 2026.

6. After Acceptance

  • Provide official transcripts (with stamp/signature).
  • Confirm participation by the specified deadline.
  • Ensure health insurance coverage during the program.
