The Ucross Residency Program offers two dedicated fellowships:

  • One for Native American visual artists
  • One for Native American writers

The mission of the Ucross Foundation is to foster the creative spirit of deeply committed artists and groups by providing:

  • Living accommodations
  • The experience of the majestic High Plains

Ucross is located in northeast Wyoming, at the foothills of the Bighorn Mountains, on a historic 20,000-acre ranch. Since its founding in 1981, Ucross has supported artists across various disciplines, including literature, visual arts, music, choreography, film, performance, and multidisciplinary art.

✅ Eligibility Criteria

The Ucross Residency Program is open to:

  • Visual artists, writers, composers, choreographers, interdisciplinary artists, and performance artists.
  • Collaborative teams.

Additional Requirements:

  • Applicants must exhibit professional standing in their field.
  • Both mature artists and emerging artists of promise are welcome to apply.
  • Students at any level are not eligible.

📝 Application Process

Residents are selected by a rotating panel of professionals in the arts and humanities. Final decisions are made by the Ucross Foundation.

Key Application Details:

  1. Deadlines:

    • Spring Session: July 15 (11:59 PM MT)
    • Fall Session: January 15 (11:59 PM MT)
  2. Notification Timeline:

    • Applicants are notified approximately 16 weeks after the application deadline.
  3. Work Samples:

    • Submit work samples that represent or relate to the project you are proposing.
  4. Reapplication:

    • Artists who have applied in the past must submit new and complete applications, including updated work samples and references.
    • Artists may reapply after three years have elapsed since their previous residency.
  5. Collaborative Teams:

    • One artist must apply, with additional collaborators submitting forms within the original application.
  6. Couples:

    • Couples may apply individually for concurrent residencies, but acceptance is not guaranteed for both.
