📖 About TWAS-UNESCO Associateship Scheme

In collaboration with UNESCO and a number of centres of excellence in the South, TWAS has instituted a Joint Associateship Scheme to enable competent researchers from the South to visit these centres regularly.

• An associate is appointed for three years, during which they can visit a Centre twice for research collaboration.
• Almost 300 centres have been selected to participate in the Scheme.

• Travel Support: TWAS provides travel support for the associates.
• Subsistence Costs: Contribution towards subsistence costs up to USD 300.00 per month.
• Living Expenses: Covered by the host centres.

✅ Eligibility Criteria

• Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent degree.
• Selection of associates is highly competitive; appointments are made on the basis of merit.
• Special consideration is given to scientists from isolated institutions in developing countries.
• Women scientists are especially encouraged to apply.

📝 Application Date and Process

Applicants must complete the online application form. While filling in the application, the following documentation must be uploaded:

1. Scanned copy of the applicant's passport (even if expired; page with applicant's name and surname).
2. Supporting Statement from Head of Home Institution.
3. Applicant's curriculum vitae (no more than 4 pages).
4. Applicant's full list of publications.
5. PhD certificate.
6. Two letters of recommendation by two referees (one of whom should be an expert from another country).
7. A recent invitation letter (on the host institution’s letterhead paper) from one of the Institutions listed here. The letter should include:
   • Proposed time of the visits (two to three months for each visit).
   • Details of the proposed cooperation.
   • Evidence of contact between the applicant and the proposed host regarding the scientific work to be done during the visit.
   • Agreement on the conditions for conducting the work, timing of the visit, and facilities available.
