The TWAS-SISSA-Lincei Research Cooperation Visits Program is now accepting applications. This program is designed to foster collaboration between young scientists from least developed countries and host institutions in Italy.

📖 About the Program

TWAS (The World Academy of Sciences) is a merit-based science academy established to advance scientific excellence and capability for sustainable development in the least developed countries. It brings together approximately 1,000 scientists from around 70 countries.

🎁 Benefits of the Program

• Travel and subsistence expenses for a visit to Italy will be covered by UNESCO-TWAS, the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

✅ Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Be a maximum age of 40 years on 31 December of the application year.
• Hold an MSc (or higher degree).
• Be nationals of a least developed country (refer to the list at UN LDCs).
• Hold a research position in a least developed country.
• Focus on research projects under the umbrella of sustainability science.
• Women scientists are encouraged to apply.
• Applicants already on-site in the host country are not eligible.
• Applications must align with the scientific fields specified in the application form.

📝 Application Process

Key Points:

1. Fellowships are awarded by the Selection Committee based on scientific merit.
2. Applications must be completed in English.
3. Submit the complete application form, duly signed, to the TWAS Secretariat. Applications can be sent via email, but pages with signatures must be scanned.

Required Materials:

1. Completed application form.
2. Copy of passport (only the page with personal details is required).
3. Applicant’s curriculum vitae.
4. Statement on scientific interests and future plans for research in sustainability sciences, explicitly referring to contributions to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
5. Full list of publications (do not include reprints of articles).
6. Copy of the MSc (or higher) certificate.
7. Recent invitation letter from an eligible host laboratory in Italy, detailing:
   • Proposed time of the visit (3 months).
   • Evidence of prior communication and agreement with the host regarding the scientific work and facilities.
8. Two recent letters of recommendation, submitted separately to TWAS by referees familiar with the applicant’s work. Only signed reference letters will be accepted.
