The Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study (SCAS) is now accepting applications for the Barbro Klein Fellowship Programme 2026. This prestigious fellowship aims to advance the study of cultural diversity from a global perspective.
π About the Programme
The Barbro Klein Residential Fellowship Programme is designed to foster research on cultural and social diversity, cultural heritage, creativity, societal structures, public resistance, and various cultural expressions in both local and global contexts. Scholars from the humanities and social sciences are encouraged to apply.
π Benefits of the Fellowship
Selected fellows will enjoy the following benefits:
- Monthly Salary: Fellows generally receive a monthly salary during their residency at SCAS. However, the fellowship funding may not fully match scholarsβ home institution salaries.
- Accommodation Support:
- SCAS typically provides and covers accommodation costs for fellows residing outside the Stockholm-Uppsala region.
- Assistance may also be available for Stockholm-based fellows facing commuting challenges.
- Supplementary Support: Participants are encouraged to secure additional funding through sabbatical funding, grants, or institutional support.
β Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the Barbro Klein Fellowship Programme, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Hold a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree for at least three years at the time of application.
- Have been awarded their doctorate no later than 1 June 2023.
- Demonstrate a strong record of independent academic achievement beyond the postdoctoral level.
- Provide evidence of significant scholarly publications and international academic engagement.
Note: Applicants are not required to hold a current university or institutional affiliation when applying.
π Application Process
Applications must be submitted through the Varbi application system. Candidates are required to provide the following documents in PDF format:
- Curriculum Vitae (max. 4 pages).
- Research Project Description (max. 1500 words, excluding bibliography).
- List of Major Publications: Up to 10 articles in international peer-reviewed journals and/or major research monographs or edited volumes.
- One Scholarly Article: An article, book chapter, or monograph chapter (in English) representing your scholarship. This does not need to relate to your proposed research project.
- Statement of Interest:
- Why you wish to be at SCAS (max. 100 words).
- How you would benefit from a stay at SCAS (max. 100 words).
- How you would contribute to the academic and social environment at SCAS (max. 100 words).
- Copy of PhD Diploma.
- Optional: Up to 3 letters of reference. (Note: Letters must be uploaded by the candidate by the application deadline. Referees cannot upload references directly.)
