β Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Applications can be submitted by an individual researcher or a team of researchers (including one applicant, and one or more co-applicants and/or collaborators).
- Applicants must be affiliated with a Canadian postsecondary institution that holds institutional eligibility at the time of application.
- Researchers with a primary affiliation to a non-Canadian postsecondary institution are not eligible for applicant status.
- Applicants who have received a SSHRC grant but failed to submit an achievement report by the specified deadline are not eligible to apply for another SSHRC grant until the report is submitted.
- Postdoctoral researchers are eligible if:
- They have formally established an affiliation with an eligible institution at the time of application.
- They maintain this affiliation for the duration of the grant period.
- They confirm with their institutionβs research grants officer that the institution can administer the funding if awarded.
- Students are not eligible for applicant or co-applicant status.
- Federal scientists affiliated with a Canadian postsecondary institution must demonstrate that their proposed research is unrelated to the mandate of their employer or their normal duties.

- Applicants must complete the application form in accordance with the accompanying application instructions.
- Applications must be submitted electronically by an authorized research grants officer or equivalent from the applicantβs institution.
- Applicants needing assistance while preparing their application should contact SSHRC well in advance of the application deadline.
Important Notes:
- The application server will be offline for two business days after the 8:00 PM (Eastern) application deadline. During this time, applications in progress will be retained for the next competition deadline.
