✅ Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be an early-career researcher:
    • Either in the final stage of completing their PhD thesis/dissertation.
    • Or a postdoctoral researcher within five years of completing their PhD (including PhD holders who have not held a postdoc position).
  • Be a citizen of an African country and currently working or pursuing a PhD at an African institution.
  • Be working on a research topic within the scientific scope of PAGES.
  • Be willing to conduct research in another African institution/country.
  • Secure the agreement of the host researcher/institution and provide a confirmation letter from the host as a pre-condition for the award.
  • Ensure the fellowship duration is between 2 and 4 weeks within a 12-month period from the date of award.

📋 Application Process

Awardees are selected based on the merit and quality of their application. The application must include:

  1. Completed Application Form, including:
    • Description of proposed research and travel (max. 1000 words), indicating how the aims and objectives relate to PAGES' scientific scope.
    • Description of the fellowship's impact on professional capacity development and its significance to the home institution/country (max. 200 words).
    • Project timeline and outcomes (up to one month duration).
    • Detailed budget in USD.
  2. Two Letters of Recommendation:
    • One from the current academic supervisor at the home institution.
    • One from the supervisor at the host institution.
  3. Curriculum Vitae (CV):
    • Outlining major academic and professional achievements (max. 2 pages).

How to Apply:

  • Applications are preferred in English, but French applications are also accepted.
  • Submit your completed application form via email to pages@pages.unibe.ch with the subject line: "Application PAGES African Mobility Fellowship".
  • After completing the fellowship, fellows must submit a final report in English, including:
    • A financial report.
    • A scientific report.
    • A short article (650 words and one figure) for publication in the Past Global Changes Magazine.
