One World Media Fellowship
The One World Media Fellowship is designed for mid-career journalists and filmmakers from the global south. This opportunity is open to professionals working in film, print, audio, photography, or multimedia, aiming to develop their careers by reporting on the global south with integrity and creativity, breaking down prejudices, and raising awareness.
📝 About the Fellowship
The One World Media Fellowship is the flagship program supporting and championing global journalism and documentary filmmaking. Each year, a cohort of talented fellows is selected to receive:
- Mentoring
- Industry support
- Funding to produce original stories from the global south
Key Highlights:
- Established in 2001, the program has supported nearly 300 emerging journalists and filmmakers from over 100 countries.
- Fellows receive reporting grants, one-to-one mentoring, and access to workshops and events led by industry experts.
- The program champions diverse emerging talent, encouraging submissions from underrepresented groups, including people of color, ethnic groups, women, LGBTQ+, and people with disabilities.

✅ Eligibility Criteria
The fellowship is open to mid-career filmmakers and journalists from the global south who are working on creative and engaging non-fiction stories about the global south.
Requirements:
- 10 Fellows will be selected, including those awarded special grants in partnership with media outlets.
- Applicants should have projects in pre-production that tell engaging stories from low- and middle-income countries across the global south.
- Projects must be non-fiction media across platforms such as film, print, audio, photojournalism, and multimedia.
- Proposals should have the majority of the budget in place or achievable within a short timeframe.
- Projects must be deliverable within one year:
- 10 minutes in film
- 1,500 words in print
- 30 minutes in audio/multimedia
- Stories should be strong enough to be published or broadcast in established media outlets.
Additional Considerations:
- Proposals should:
- Highlight underreported stories in an engaging way.
- Amplify the voices of people living in the global south, especially those not often heard.
- Include established contacts/contributors who have confirmed their willingness to participate.
- Address safety considerations.
- Demonstrate an understanding of accountability and fair practice in reporting.
- Employ ethical filmmaking practices when working with contributors.
