The Newton International Fellowship (NIF) programme provides support for outstanding early-career researchers to make a first step towards developing an independent research career through gaining experience across international borders. ✅ Eligibility Criteria
- Researchers from around the world are eligible.
- Applicants must:
- Have a PhD or expect to complete one before the funding begins.
- Be based outside the UK and must not hold UK citizenship.
- Have no more than five years of active, full-time postdoctoral experience at the time of application.
- Research must fall within the Royal Society’s scope, covering natural sciences such as:
- Biological research
- Biomedical sciences
- Chemistry
- Engineering
- Mathematics
- Physics
- A UK sponsor must support the application, assist in project development, and provide ongoing mentorship, guidance, and support throughout the award duration.
- Individuals of any nationality are eligible, including those requiring a visa.
- Strong written and oral English skills are necessary.
- Not eligible:
- Individuals already living, working, or conducting research in the UK.
- Individuals who have previously received a Newton Fellowship.
- Fellowships must be carried out in the UK at a UK host organization for the entire fellowship duration.
