The Mitigation Action Facility (MAF) is now accepting applications for its Call for Projects Program 2026. This initiative supports climate mitigation projects that advance carbon-neutral development in energy, transport, and industry sectors.

📖 About The Program

The Mitigation Action Facility funds organizations and national institutions to implement climate mitigation projects. With up to EUR 25 million per project from an overall EUR 100 million funding envelope, the program integrates policy, finance, and technical assistance to accelerate Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and sustainable development.

Project Phases:

  2. Detailed Preparation Phase – In-depth project planning (optional for mature projects)
  3. Implementation Phase – Full project execution

✅ Eligibility Criteria

Eligible Applicants:

  • National ministries or governmental agencies
  • Development banks
  • NGOs and INGOs
  • Foundations
  • Private financial institutions or commercial companies

Project Requirements:

  • Projects must be located in an OECD DAC-listed partner country.
  • Focus on energy, transport, or industry sectors.
  • Proposals should combine policy reform and financial instruments.
  • Must align with any existing NDC Partnership plans.
  • Activities must qualify as Official Development Assistance (ODA).
  • Present strategies to leverage additional capital and phase out Facility support.

📝 Application Process

  1. Confirm eligibility and project alignment with partner country priorities.
  2. Submit up to six concept proposals per applicant.
  3. Selected concepts advance to the Detailed Preparation Phase or directly to the Proposal Phase for mature projects.
  4. Participate in finalist pitch sessions if invited.
  5. Upon approval, receive technical and financial support for full implementation.

Applicants are encouraged to design projects with:

  • Clear impact metrics for emissions reduction and carbon-neutral development.
  • Strong local ownership and governance.
  • Long-term sustainability beyond Facility funding.
