Nominations for the 2025 Minister of Justice National Youth Justice Policing Award are now open.
📖 About the Award
Established in 2000, the Minister of Justice National Youth Justice Policing Award is presented in collaboration with the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police and the Canadian Police Association. This prestigious award recognizes police-led initiatives that employ innovative approaches or promising practices beyond the formal court system when addressing youth who come into contact with the criminal justice system. It celebrates innovative policing and creative responses to youth crime.
The award is presented in alternate years at:
- The Canadian Police Association Biennial Meeting
- The Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police Annual Summit
For 2025, the award ceremony will take place during the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police Annual Conference from August 10 to 12, 2025, in Victoria, British Columbia.

🎁 Benefits
Recipients of the award will receive:
- A certificate of recognition.
- $10,000 in funding, presented in the name of the recipient(s) to the successful police service or a community organization (in the case of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police or other federal entities).
- Coverage of some travel expenses for one representative from the winning initiative to attend the award ceremony, provided by the Department of Justice Canada.
✅ Eligibility Criteria
The award is open to:
- Individuals or teams of police officers and others involved in police-led initiatives that apply the principles of the Youth Criminal Justice Act in innovative and creative ways when working with youth who come into contact with the law.
- Projects that address the needs of, or demonstrate sensitivity towards, Indigenous youth, Black youth, or other vulnerable youth in the youth criminal justice system will be given special consideration.

To nominate a candidate or team:
- Complete and submit the nomination form to the provided email address. Only one form is required for team nominations.
- Include a signed letter from the Chief of Police, Director, or Commanding Officer of the agency concerned.
- Optionally, include supporting materials such as:
- News articles
- Citations
- Letters of appreciation
- Photographs
Important Note:
If the award winner is from Québec, additional information may be required.
